18 in 2018 – Progress in March

This year, I ditched the New Year’s Resolutions and instead opted to set myself 18 goals and intentions for 2018 (you can read all about that here).  As part of my own accountability and to hopefully help inspire you to stay on track or get on board with your own goals, I’m posting on my progress every month.  I’m not going to talk about each goal – we’ll be here all day – so I’m just going to pick out the ones I’ve been working on (or not!) this month.

You can check out last month’s progress too.

Run 1,000 miles in 2018

It’s been a pretty good month for running with 78 miles clocked.  This has turned out to be such a great goal for me.  It’s not a one-off activity; I have to show up every week, for every run, to stay on track.  Consistency is key!

Read at least 24 books

After a very productive reading month in February, it’s been a bit slower this month, to put it mildly!  I didn’t actually finish a single book.  I dipped into Dr Timothy McCall’s Yoga as Medicine for an amazing yoga training course.  I read half of It Didn’t Start With You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle by Mark Wolynn.  I liked the initial premise but couldn’t stick it out in some of the later chapters.  I also tried  Zen and The Art of Falling in Love by Brenda Shoshanna but just couldn’t get into the writing.

Luckily, I have a whole new stash of books for April!

Do one new thing/go to one new place every month

Write something every day

I started well.  The habit hasn’t stuck.  I’m still trying.

The Month in Review

March has been a difficult month.  I’m not entirely sure why.  I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching and I think I’ve been experiencing something of a hangover after a couple of months of adrenaline-fuelled highs.  Not to mention, it’s felt like the winter has dragged on and on.

And that’s okay.  Not every month is going to be a roaring success.  The difficult times make the good times more vibrant.  They give our lives contrast and context.

And now, Spring is springing.  After a few weeks of feeling lethargic and dull, I’m getting my mojo back so I’m hopeful for a fresh start in April.
